Padua/PADUA VTE risk assessment

Determines the need for anticoagulant therapy in hospitalized patients based on thrombotic risk

1. Active cancer (metastases to regional lymph nodes or distant metastases, chemotherapy or radiation therapy within the last 6 months)

2. History of DVT or PE (except SVT)

3. Decreased mobility (planned bed rest for more than 3 days)

4. Established thrombophilia (deficiency of antithrombin, protein C or S, factor V Leiden, prothrombin gene G20210A mutation, or antiphospholipid syndrome)

5. Recent (≤1 month) trauma or surgery

6. Age 70 years and older

7. Heart or respiratory failure

8. Acute myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke

9. Acute infection or rheumatic disease

10. Obesity (BMI ≥30)

11. Hormone treatment at time of enumeration
