How does phlebologist' consultation perform

How does a phlebologist visit
Patients who are planning to visit a phlebologist for the first time often wonder how the appointment with this doctor will be. Indeed, there are differences from the consultation of doctorsof otherspecialties, but looking ahead, it is important to note that the examinationiscompletely non-invasive and painless and does not require any special preparation.
STAGE 1 - ACQUAINTANCE AND COLLECTION OF ANAMNESTIC DATA.
Firstly, at the beginning of the consultation, the phlebologist collects special information regarding the reason for the visit (subjective and objective symptoms that bother the patient), a detailed history of the onset and treatment of the disease, family history (cases of vascular disease in close relatives) and previous examination methods, if any, including data from ultrasound, CT, MRI, laboratory tests and other tests that were performed by the patient at the time of the initial visit.
STEP 2 - OBJECTIVE PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
Secondly, the doctor will definitely examine the lower extremities, determine the level of arterial pulsation, check for symptoms characteristic of deep vein thrombosis (the occurrence of pain in the calf muscles when the foot is dorsiflexed) and signs of accompanying neurological (symptoms of nerve root tension) or musculoskeletal (diseases of bones and joints) pathology.
STAGE 3 - ULTRASONIC EXAMINATION OF THE VEINS AND ARTERIES OF THE LOWER LIMB C USING ADDITIONAL IMAGING TECHNIQUES
Thirdly, an ultrasound examination will be carried out, which will enable the doctor to determine the exact cause of the disease, including vascular blockages or non-functioning venous valves. This method is operator-dependent (the interpretation of the results depends on the specialist performing the ultrasound examination), so the phlebologist must be able to perform ultrasound of the vessels of the lower extremities on his own.
STAGE 4 - DEVELOPING THE FURTHER PLAN FOR THE EXAMINATION AND TREATMENT.
Fourthly, if additional tests are needed (for example, determining the level of cholesterol fractions, detecting congenital thrombophilia, or performing multislice computed tomography of blood vessels), the doctor will justify the appropriateness of performing these tests and research methods , the results of which will be needed at the time of the second consultation. It is also possible to draw up a treatment plan based on the results of a physical examination and ultrasound, especially in the case of varicose veins of the lower extremities. The doctor will determine a treatment plan, which may include both conservative measures (use of drugs, lifestyle modification, compression stockings) and various modern interventions (endovenous laser or radiofrequency ablation, bioglue or sclerotherapy) and will explain to the patient in detail the stages of the treatment process. In addition, preventive measures are necessarily discussed to prevent the progression of the disease to the pool of healthy veins. As a result, after talking with a phlebologist, the patient gets a complete picture of the causes and mechanism of the disease, the need to use additional diagnostic tests, and will also receive a treatment plan and get acquainted with a set of measures aimed at preventing diseases of the vessels of the lower extremities.
